Kilimanjaro & Safari

Marangu Route & Northern Tanzania Safari

  • Kilimanjaro & Safari

Safe journey. Real adventure!

Experience Tanzania in two extraordinary ways: climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, via the classic Marangu Route. And then discover the incredible wildlife of northern Tanzania on safari. This combination brings together physical challenge and unforgettable encounters with nature and wildlife.

The Marangu Route, also known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is the most classic and historic route on Mount Kilimanjaro. As the only route offering mountain huts instead of camping, it provides a more comfortable trekking experience. After a successful summit, your safari adventure begins through some of the most spectacular national parks in the country.

In Tarangire National Park, massive elephant herds and majestic baobab trees await you. The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater impresses with its unique landscape and extraordinarily high animal density. At Lake Manyara, you will encounter flamingos, monkeys, elephants, and – with some luck – even tree-climbing lions.

Our team and experienced guides on-site will take care of you at all times so you can fully enjoy your expedition.

Special Questions about Kilimanjaro

Yes! Many of our guests have never climbed a high mountain before. You do not need any technical climbing experience. What matters much more is a good basic fitness level, determination, and the right mindset. The biggest challenge is usually not the hiking itself, but the altitude of 5,895 meters.

At the start of the trek, daytime temperatures can still be above 20 °C, while summit temperatures often drop to around -15 °C or even lower. Many people underestimate the cold during summit night. That is why proper layered clothing is extremely important: thermal base layers, a down jacket, waterproof rain gear, warm gloves, and waterproof trekking boots are essential.

No. You only carry your daypack with water, snacks, and personal items. Your main luggage is transported by the porters. Usually up to 15 kg per person is included, allowing you to fully focus on the hike and the altitude.

Tipping is an important part of the tour and is usually distributed collectively among the crew at the end. As a general guideline:
- Guide: 20–25 USD per day
- Assistant Guide: 15–20 USD per day
- Cook: 12–15 USD per day
- Porter: 8–10 USD per day

We will of course explain the tipping system transparently on site, with no surprises.

Specific Safari Questions

Game drives usually start very early around 7:00 am as the animals are most active then. You will ride in a vehicle with a pop-up roof that offers great all-around visibility. A pair of binoculars is provided per vehicle at no cost, but you can rent an additional one for a fee.

Observe the animals quietly and always maintain a distance. In most cases, you will be in the safari vehicle during animal sightings, and you should only exit when your guide permits it. Animals should never be touched or fed. Additionally, it is important not to leave any litter in nature!

In Tanzania, tipping is a fixed part of the driver's income. As a guideline, you should plan around 30 US dollars per day per vehicle. It is helpful to have cash in small denominations for such purposes.

You will typically have breakfast and dinner at your lodge (buffet or set menu). For lunch, your driver will provide a lunchbox for you to enjoy in the bush or prepare a warm bush dinner in nature. During game drives, there will be an ample supply of complimentary drinking water in the vehicle. If you have any food intolerances, please inform us at least four weeks before the trip.
